EYFS settling into school

The first few weeks when a child is settling into an early years environment is a time of crucial importance to their later happiness in this setting. At BIS HCMC we work hard to ensure our youngest learners have the best start to their BIS experience as possible. Research shows that when the settling in period is positive for the child, it can not only impact on their happiness throughout their time at the early years setting, but also on how the child views future transitions.

Children who have a positive start to their new environment are more likely to feel comfortable, relaxed and valued, feel good about themselves as learners and have a sense of belonging to the pre-school community. Thank you to everyone who has returned the “Nice to meet you” forms, these have really helped the teachers. If you still need to complete one, please do ask your child’s class teacher for a copy.

It has been great to see how confident our children are in their new classes, meeting specialist teachers and creating new friends. All children are individuals and while some children will adjust fairly easily to the new environment and new routines, others will take longer to feel comfortable and secure. If you are concerned, please talk to your child’s class teacher. There will also be opportunity to discuss individual pastoral needs at the Parent Student Teacher Conferences (PSTCs). Sign up for parents will open on Tuesday 4th September at 9am and close on Friday 7th September at 5pm.

Most importantly, you are the safe base from which your child can branch out and explore the world, grow and learn and become socially and emotionally confident.

Although you may be feeling as anxious and emotional as your child, try to stay cheery and confident as children will pick up on your feelings of apprehension.

Do come and talk or email me at sarah.curran@bisvietnam.com if you have any questions.
