F1 in Schools World Finals

We are all extremely proud of our F1 team, Nam Phong Racing, who have this week demonstrated that great perseverance and supportive teamwork go a long way to securing success.
The hard work that they have put in to a range of complex problem solving from engineering to marketing and financial challenges to develop their F1 car has paid great dividends at this week’s World Finals.
Nam Phong finished in the highest position recorded at BIS, 22nd in the whole world. This represents a huge 22 places up from last year and is a great achievement in itself.
Nam Phong were also nominated for The Best Team Website & Team Identity Award and won the Best Website trophy.
We also received some more fantastic news out of the event; from a very competitive field of applicants Ji Min Oh won a place at the prestigious Unilever Williams Academy of Engineering next year. We are so very pleased for her as this will complement her undergraduate studies perfectly.
Nam Phong, you have made BIS extremely proud!

This team now have the task of designing the Junior Logic Competition for our younger mathematicians later in the year.
Open Day 2

Thanks to all Year 8 Parents who joined us for our second Open Day of the term this week. We very much enjoyed your company and the many magical moments you experienced when you were able to see your children learning ‘live’ in class.
The conversations that took place following your visits to classrooms were with parents better informed about our curriculum and how we go about teaching and learning here.
Our next Open Day is for Year 9 parents on September 25th and I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible.
‘Read a New Book Month’

Students at the Secondary Campus really got stuck into ‘Read a New Book Month’ today, as the pop-up library made an appearance at lunchtime! Hear book recommendations from our teachers here.
ABRSM High Scorers’ Concert

On Saturday 8th September, a large crowd attended the ABRSM High Scorers’ Concert, despite the very wet weather.
All parents, friends and family were treated a fantastic evening of music making with the top 35 scoring students from the June practical exam session. Students from grade 1 to diploma level entertained the audience with their favourite pieces from their recent exam.
Performers included Anya on both violin and voice, Xenia and Mel on piano, Carl on violin, Caitlyn on cello and Thanh on Alto saxophone.
Congratulations to all these performers and also all students who were successful in their ABRSM exams last June.

Director of Music

Caterers’ Parent Portal

We have been delighted with the feedback on the new Caterers’ Parent Portal. As you will be aware, we have been working with ‘The Caterers’ to develop a system to enable you as parents to easily access information on the purchases your sons and daughters make on their school meal cards. We hope this will further enable us to work in partnership with you in supporting our students to make healthy, balanced choices.
In case you missed our email, you can click here for a ‘How to’ video on accessing this new feature via our school website.
