Ms Deirdre Grimshaw: Weekly Update 22/11/2019

Another busy week which began on Saturday with the Family Fun Evening, but has also included our Year 5 and 6 Speech and Debate competition final, Teacher's Day celebrations and an accreditation inspection.

Another busy week which began on Saturday with the Family Fun Evening. It was a lovely event, the weather gods smiled down and the hard work and efforts of the amazing PTG team meant that we had a fabulous evening for all our guests.  Thanks to everyone that came along and supported. We hope you had a great time. Our PTG were also busy on Wednesday as we celebrated International Teacher’s Day.  Our Primary PTG spoiled the teachers on both campuses with a delicious breakfast as we arrived at school. Our thanks once again to all involved.

This week we have had many visitors on site as part of the CIS/WASC Accreditation visit.  More information in the post below from Mr Ian but suffice to say they were extremely happy with what they saw and the warm welcome they received from the students.  We were very proud to share our wonderful school with them.

Also this week, our Year 5 and 6 students took part in the eagerly awaited Speech and Debate competition! Thursday afternoon saw the class winners from Year 5 and 6 battle it out on stage at the secondary auditorium. More details to follow in a later post but a huge well done to all of the students who took part right from the very beginning of the unit to those students who competed yesterday as well as all the presenters and musicians that educated and entertained us during the afternoon. Here is a little teaser from our Year 5 Winner!

Next Monday sees our rescheduled Year 6 Sports Day, we do hope you will come along and support your children on the field from 8.15 onwards.

Next week we host our Headteachers’ Coffee Morning where we will share our Primary Campus Priorities and how we are moving forward as a school in terms of facilities, academics, professional development and other areas. There will of course be time for you to ask questions or raise any issues or concerns you may have. We look forward to seeing you next Thursday, 28th November 2019 at 8.30am in the Black Box Theatre at the Junior Campus.

Next week is also the last week of clubs and Vietnamese classes. Please ensure that the following week you collect your children at the end of the school day (2.30pm). Sign up for Term 2 clubs will open shortly and there are a few changes to this. Please read this important section by Mr Chris which gives more detail.

Term 2 Clubs

CCA sign up is just around the corner and the Club Booklet is in the final stages of completion. Lookout for the email informing you of available CCAs by the end of next week, and then the official opening of sign-up begins of Monday the 3rd of December at 5pm and remains open until 12pm on Friday the 13th. Don’t miss out! There will be a number of changes this coming term to make sure that the sign-up process is more transparent and fair to all. The dates that have been set will be strictly enforced, and once CCAs have been signed up there will not be an opportunity for changes. All club allocation completely automated using the CHQ platform. By doing this, we are better able to ensure that those who miss out on a preferred CCA choice will have the opportunity when the next round of CCAs begin. Payment for those CCA which charge fees will also be streamlined and will only be available over a 3-day period. Bank transfers are available, and certainly make life much easier for you, the parents, when it comes to making payments. We have an amazing array of CCAs ready for your children in Term 2, so get them ready!

Health and Safety

Managing our Traffic Together

Drivers Code of Conduct

We would like to remind all parents about our Drivers Code of Conduct and once more ask for your assistance and cooperation in helping to make the BIS traffic flow with ease between the campuses and in the general vicinity of the school. Using the Code of Conduct, with key information in both English and Vietnamese, we aim to further educate our drivers to make better choices when they enter the areas around our school campuses and within the Thao Dien area as a whole.

Please take time to talk to you drivers about the this and ensure that it is visible in your car at all times. This will serve as a reminder about our expectations for all drivers when they are bringing our children to school in the morning and picking them up at the end of the day.

Safeguarding at school – it’s everyone’s responsibility

Child Protection

If, during your visit to school, you have any reason to be concerned about the safety of a young person, please contact the Designated Safeguarding Person.

Please note that CCTV cameras are in operation at all times across the campus.

And Finally,

School reports will be issued shortly. Please make sure you have downloaded the ISAMS app in order to access the reports. Details on how to do this can be viewed further back in this update.

Warmest wishes,

Ms Deirdre Grimshaw, Headteacher of Junior Campus
