It was a humbling experience, the special thing for me was not to break the record but to see everyone come and congratulate me at the finish line. It made me realise how much of a special community our school really is.

Secondary Sports Day 2019 All the action from the largest inter-house competition of the academic year! Secondary Sports Day 2019 | British International School HCMC-secondary-sports-day-2019-SCSportsDay2019bANNER

On Wednesday 4th December nearly 1100 people travelled across the city from the BIS Secondary Campus to Thong Nhat Stadium, in District 10. They were there to run, jump, throw but most importantly bond and have fun as they took part in the largest inter-house competition of the academic year; Secondary Sports Day!

House spirit was on show throughout as sweat poured, records tumbled, events were won and lost and smiles and laughs were had by all.

Students had previously chosen a circuit of 4 events to take part in.

  • Circuit A -  200m, 800m, High Jump & Discus
  • Circuit B - 100m, Javelin, Standing Triple Jump, Long Jump
  • Circuit C - Standing Triple Jump, High Jump, Long Jump, Javelin

This was followed in the afternoon by house relays and Tug of War competitions which the staff excitedly got involved with!

  • Saigon Y9-11 Boys - 4 x 100m Relay (50.32 secs)

Speaking about his new 100m record Matt McKelvie (Y13) said “It was a humbling experience, the special thing for me was not to break the record but to see everyone come and congratulate me at the finish line. It made me realise how much of a special community our school really is.”

A huge congratulations and thanks to every student, teacher, TA, guard and member of staff from the Secondary Campus. Whether you competed, measured, timed, made sandwiches or set up the equipment you played your part in a very special day and contributed to a fantastic atmosphere.

The overall results will be announced in assembly on Friday. Make sure you are there to find out which house came out on top.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New year.
