EAL in Year 4

At the beginning of Term 1, Year 4 EAL studied fictional portal stories and worked hard on using rich and varied adjectives in their own writing.

Later in the term, students practised using the language of persuasion to sell things which allowed them to participate actively in our whole school Enterprise Day. During the Dilemma Stories unit, our grammar focus was using a range of coordinating and subordinating conjunctions to build compound and complex sentences. At the end of Term 1 the students created some wonderful own poems using their favourite poetry features on the topic of Winter and Christmas. A selection of the poems are on the EAL display board, and can be also be viewed on the EAL blog: https://bishcmceal.blogspot.com

In Term 2, in preparation for International Week, students honed their research skills and compiled informative reports on countries around the world. They were able to create formal sentences using technical language and paragraphs with sub-headings. We are currently learning about fronted adverbials and how they can be used to create interesting and engaging stories, drawing upon our own cultural experiences for inspiration.
