Not all children from our wide cultural backgrounds may have listened to or heard about Little Bo Peep or Jack and Jill so this week we had a spectacular show in the ELC, performed by our wonderful teachers and teaching assistants to help bring some of the characters alive for the children.
We met Robin Hood, the Wicked Witch, Tom Thumb and Old Mother Hubbard, just to mention a few of the characters. Children were spellbound by the show and returned to classes full of enthusiasm for stories, creating their own characters and shows. A new ‘theatre/show’ space has popped up in the ELC with many children showing their wonderful talents and self-confidence in front of an audience, and many of the classes have theatre role play areas or puppet shows with books and writing opportunities aplenty.
Classes have already learned the whole text with the support of story maps, and our next step will be to change the existing characters in the book to other characters we may know, from our imagination or from other shows or stories. We’re expecting the appearance of Elsa and Iron Man in some unusual settings. Along the way we will be reading many traditional tales in story areas of the class or at story time, learning about settings and writing opening and closing lines.
We’re looking forward to a literary few weeks in F3.
