The Year 1s and 2s certainly have had fun learning all about some of the different languages that are spoken, as home languages, at our school!
In the first term we introduced Italian from Italy, and Urdu from Pakistan. We tasted our first LiF snack for Urdu which were some delicious samosas. Then in the second term, we celebrated Japanese by watching some class teachers in a Sumo wrestling competition – this was super exciting! Some scrumptious sushi was sampled by the students for their LiF snack. To round off Japanese, a couple of our wonderful Japanese mums came to read the whole school a story in Japanese during assembly which all the teachers and students thoroughly enjoyed.
On Friday last week we introduced, our fourth and final, language for the year - Danish from Denmark. Our Year 1 Danish speaker, Timothy and a friend, went up against two Year 2 boys in a Lego tower building competition whilst the rest of the school sang along to the Lego themed song, ‘Everything is Awesome’. The Year 1s and 2s had the chance to nibble on some delightful Danish pastries after their playtimes, too.
It has been a fantastic first year of LiF and we cannot wait to see what next year has to offer!
