Ms Deirdre Grimshaw: Weekly Update 30/08/2019

Deirdre Grimshaw (57 posts) Head Teacher, Junior Campus View Profile

Each week at the Junior Campus there is something new and exciting going on. This week was no exception.

Fossils Found At BISHCMC 1

Learning at BIS HCMC is not confined to the classroom, and providing rich and engaging learning experiences for our students is always top of our agenda.

The focus this week was Entry Points for our International Primary Curriculum (IPC). The IPC encompasses History, Geography, Art, Design Technology and some science skills to ensure a cross-curricular and meaningful approach to learning.

In Year 3, our students become palaeontologists and discovered dinosaur bones as they begin their first topic ‘Dinosaurs’.  In Year 4 ‘The Active Planet’ is being investigated and the power of natural disasters was explored for their entry point. Our Year 5 students took themselves to space in their ‘Mission to Mars’ topic, becoming astronauts for the day to find out what life would be like beyond our planet. ‘The Great, The Bold and The Brave’ is the unit of study for Year 6 and it focuses on the different civilizations that came before us.  Wonderful learning opportunities for all and taking learning beyond the classroom. More information about some of the entry points can be found further on.

Parent information Evening

Parent evening

On Wednesday evening it was wonderful to welcome so many parents to the campus for our Parent Information Evening.  With standing room only in the Gym, we were delighted to see so many parents taking an active role in their children’s education.  The focus for the presentation was Communication, Collaboration and Community. We want to work closely together with you the parents to ensure a happy and successful year for your children. Our dedicated teachers shared what happens in individual year groups and we look forward to a successful year for all our children and families. If you were unable to attend the evening, year groups will share their presentations with you and click on this link to access the presentation given in the gym and the Vietnamese version can be found here.

Parent Teacher Student Conferences (PTSCs)

On the 10th and 11th September we will have our first PTSCs for the academic Year 2019 – 2020 with class teachers. These conferences are an excellent opportunity to share information with the class teacher about your children. This partnership between home and school will support your child’s well-being and learning this year. Please make sure you sign up for these conferences.  A letter was sent to you today with more details about signing up.  We look forward to seeing all parents on the 10th or 11th September.

Managing our Traffic Together

Drivers Code of Conduct

We would like to remind all parents about our Drivers Code of Conduct and once more ask for your assistance and cooperation in helping to make the BIS traffic flow with ease between the campuses and in the general vicinity of the school. Using the Code of Conduct, with key information in both English and Vietnamese, we aim to further educate our drivers to make better choices when they enter the areas around our school campuses and within the Thao Dien area as a whole.

Please take time to talk to you drivers about the this and ensure that it is visible in your car at all times. This will serve as a reminder about our expectations for all drivers when they are bringing our children to school in the morning and picking them up at the end of the day.

Safeguarding at school – it’s everyone’s responsibility
