Settling In Workshop For Parents Arriving in a new school can be daunting for students and their families.

Arriving in a new school can be daunting for students and their families. When you add in arriving to a new city or country it can become overwhelming.  Here at BIS HCMC we recognise this and endeavour to provide as much support as possible for our school community.

When families leave their home country to come overseas, they often leave a network of support behind.  Their ‘go to’ friends and families are no longer 5 minutes or even an hour away so establishing support systems and friendships is extremely important for our parent community.

Through our Admissions teams, school leadership teams, Parent Teacher Group (PTG) and school counsellor, we aim to provide that network of care and support that allows families to settle more quickly and enjoy all that BIS and our host country have to offer.

On Wednesday we welcomed a large group of new parents to our Term 1 Settling in Workshop.  Led by our Admissions Team, Ms Meera Chetty our School Counsellor and with input from the school leadership team, it focused on helping families to settle here at BIS whether they were joining us from ‘down the road’ or overseas.  Understanding that many are feeling the same anxieties or worries and having a place to share those worries is an important step in settling in and finding that support network.

We were delighted to see so many parents sharing their experiences with each other throughout the morning and taking those first steps in forming friendships and support networks.

Throughout the term, our very active PTG group organise great events not just for our students but for the whole community.  We would encourage you to get involved and reach out to others.  Whether you are a parent coming from another school in the city or a parent just arriving in HCMC for the first time, we are here, as a school to support you and we look forward to getting to know you all better in the coming months.
