Michael Jones

IB Core Coordinator and Economics and Business Teacher

Travel and sports enthusiast, Michael Jones, teaches Economics and Business to future entrepreneurs and economists within the secondary school. He also coordinates the core elements of the IB DP in years 12 and 13.

I have been teaching at the British International School of Washington since 2017 and really enjoy being responsible for CAS as I get to work closely with IB students on projects and activities they are passionate about and get to know each student on a personal level outside of the traditional academic classroom setting. Additionally, seeing students use their skills and qualities to engage in service work and help others within the community is extremely rewarding.

I studied at the University of Strathclyde gaining a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Business Law and then went on to study education at the University of Glasgow after spending my summers working as a camp counsellor in Ohio teaching tennis and canoeing.

Besides education my other main passion is travel and I moved to Australia at 21. This experience made me realise I love learning about new cultures and solidified my desire to live and work internationally.

In my free time I enjoy playing on local kickball and softball leagues, going on hikes and currently trying to explore as much of North and South America as I can. I love working in a diverse international community where I can help students learn from each other’s experiences and backgrounds.
