October is certainly the month of debate at Regents International School Pattaya, with all eyes on the annual Speech Competition in Secondary.
On Monday 10th October, the Secondary school hosted its annual Public Speaking final. The competition has been running over a number of weeks and the final was the result of plenty of hard work and practice from a range of students from a range of international backgrounds in years 7-11. Students first competed in their classes and the winners in each class progressed to their respective year group semi-finals, from which Monday’s finalists were selected.
The formidable judging panel was made up of Principal Blaikie, Mr Seaton Head of Secondary, Mr Gillies Head of Primary, and Ms Cooke Head of History. They were all incredibly impressed with the strong performances on a wide range of subjects which included: ‘Pokemon’, ‘The Small Problems of the World’, ‘Teachers Cutting in Line’, ‘Why We Should Eat More Veg and Less Meat’, and ‘The Dangers of Sitting Down’. The judges all agreed that the performances were both entertatining and thought-provoking, and that it certainly takes courage to stand up on a stage alone and face such a huge audience.
‘All the contestants were wonderful and gave some amazing speeches’ said Mrs Rooney Head of English.
After some fierce competition the overall winners in KS3 and KS4 were Stephanie in year 9 with her speech on ‘PE and Sports’, and Reese in year 10 with her speech on ‘Period Shaming’. Congratulations to them both, and a huge well done to all the finalists who competed including Maxi, Eduard, Wile, Jarin, and Josh.
Thanks must also go to the English Department for once again fascilitating this great show of wits and words!
