MIT Launch 3 OCT
MIT Collaboration

In 2017 we begin our exciting collaboration with world-leading university, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Through in-school challenges, annual visits to MIT, and specialised training for our STEAM teachers, your child will be at the vanguard of developing skills for the 21st century.

2017 is going to be an exciting year at St. Andrews International School Bangkok as we begin our collaboration with the Massachuesets Institute of Technology (MIT). Nord Anglia Education has worked with MIT to bring a new approach to learning the interdisciplinary subjects of STEAM: science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics.

Through in-school challenges, annual visits to MIT, and specialised training for our teachers, your child will develop transferable skills such as flexibility, creativity and communication, helping pave the way for a wide open future. In tackling real-world challenges they will be encouraged to experiment rather than wait for instructions, and will learn that collaboration and critical thinking can solve even the trickiest problems.

MIT Experience

In April St. Andrews students will visit MIT to immerse themselves in a culture of hands-on problem solving. They will meet leading MIT scientists, build and experiment in workshops, and learn about the new discoveries that will shape their future. Activities during the MIT visit will include everything from building robots, to bioengineering, to coding. The students will also have a chance to visit MIT and Harvard allowing them to experience student life at one of these prestigious universities.

STEAM Teacher Workshops

In June two St. Andrews STEAM teachers will participate in workshops at MIT that expose them to the forefront of STEAM research and thinking. Each summer teachers will travel to MIT to receive hands-on training from MIT researchers and renowned academics. Activities include discussions and workshops with leading engineers and scientists on topics such as climate change, food production technologies, city planning and gaming among other things.

In-School Challenges

The whole school MIT STEAM programme begins in August, when all students will be able to participate in MIT-driven STEAM activities right here at St. Andrews. Science and technology are traditionally taught separately. Used together they are tools for cracking some of the world’s greatest puzzles. Our in-school challenges will encourage students to work together every term to find innovative and creative solutions to complex problems. For example, thousands of students at Nord Anglia schools from around the world blended ingenuity and imagination to construct a chain reaction machine. Amazing things happen when you blend the natural curiosity of youth with the learning style of one of the world’s most influential universities.
