It has been a very successful end to the Middle School Soccer season. Playing against Olympia, our Middle School Girls team won 6-0! Meanwhile, our boys, inspired by Bayern Munich’s 5-1 victory against Premier League giants Arsenal, defeated Wellspring by the exact same scoreline. Congratulations to all the players from British International School Hanoi involved this season and thank you to Mr Langford, Ms Wilson and Mrs Wild for coaching the teams. The Junior Varsity and Varsity season now begins and Mr Atkinson is very confident he can build on the success of our younger students.
Juilliard Goes from Strength to Strength
Paul Murphy of Juilliard visited the school this week to observe lessons and run a workshop on creativity. Paul used the work of the Mexican artist Frida Kahlo to inspire a discussion about ways in which learning can be a unique experience for every human being. We found that we engage with music, works of art and our environment in diverse ways. By learning together through the Juilliard programme, we can learn to appreciate diversity. At the same time by discovering areas where we enjoy a shared experience, the Juilliard curriculum can help us feel connected and engaged with people whose interests, beliefs and culture are different from our own. The learning experience was a powerful one and it is heartening to think that our children are being taught a curriculum, through our partnership with Juilliard, that nurtures tolerance and understanding of the 22 different nationalities present in our school.
BIS Hanoi is a Centre for Excellence
Last weekend our Geography department hosted the FOBISIA Geography JAWS Conference. JAWS stands for Job-Alike-Workshop and it is an opportunity for the best teachers in the Asian region to come together to share best practice. Spending time with the conference delegates revealed their great respect for our Geography department and BIS Hanoi, in general. It is a testimony to the quality of our teaching and learning programme in Geography, that we were able to attract such a strong field of teachers from Thailand, Brunei, Malaysia and Indonesia. Well done to Mr Schofield and Mr Forster for representing the school in such a positive light.
