We arrived on Sunday morning after a lengthy journey. The students were in good spirits despite being tired. We went straight to the hotel and, to avoid severe jet lag, walked into Boston centre in the cold rain to see a few sites. Then we took a taxi back to the hotel where we relaxed a bit, then we met with other NAE students and played some games. Everyone went to bed at around 8 pm because we were all very tired.

Day One:

This morning after a good night’s sleep we enjoyed a healthy and filling breakfast at the hotel before walking to MIT. There we took part in a scavenger hunt around the MIT campus. We were partnered with a school in New York, the students had to work together to solve puzzles that enabled them to navigate the campus. We were lucky because it was a beautifully sunny day with blue skies and a slight chill in the air.

After the hunt we ate lunch in the MIT canteen, the students enjoyed chatting to other students and some MIT students.

Following lunch we had an inspirational talk from a professor about her work. Then we experienced some improvised comedy, the students found that hilarious.

Next on the agenda was the highly anticipated Boda Borg. The students found it challenging but fun. We ate dinner at Boda Borg too, then we boarded the American school buses and returned to the hotel.

Tomorrow looks to be another exciting day.

Day Two

Our first workshop today was called Circuit Bending. The students were paired with another student who they did not know, together they chose an old toy and began dismantling it. Their challenge was then to alter the sound the toy made. Using a variety of tools and gadgets they managed to make some great changes.

After lunch we had a brilliant session on Physics of Photography. The students learnt about shutter speeds and used strobe lights to create impressive photos.

Following the last workshop we played some games outside before dinner, and then went to hear some inspirational stories from MIT students and graduates.

The laughter and camaraderie between our own students and students from around the world was spectacular. Bring on Day Three!
