Staff Profile: Fiona Shanks

Fee Shanks BIS Hanoi 2018

Mathematics Teacher

MEng Chemical Engineering with European Studies, University of Edinburgh, UK

QTS, Newcastle University, LearnED and Cramlington

Learning Village

Fiona has been teaching mathematics for 9 years. She graduated from Edinburgh University with an MEng in Chemical Engineering with European Studies in 2001.

The next two summers working in a summer camp in New Jersey ignited her passion for both working with children and making the most of learning outside of a classroom. However, she spent 6 years working in music retail before taking the plunge into teaching. She trained and worked in Cramlington, UK before setting off in 2015 for an adventure, teaching in an international school in Cambodia. Over the next 3 years she worked as both the Middle Years Maths Teacher and Curriculum Leader for the whole school. She worked with teachers in the primary school to develop more rigour and challenge in their maths teaching, as well as championing a growth mindset in the classroom.
