Information and Reminders

Wednesday is STEAM day for all of the Primary School. Students will be taking part in a range of Science, Technology, Maths and Art activities with their fellow house members. We know it will be another fun and interesting day for all.

Class parties will take place on the afternoon of Thursday 15th December. Please liaise with the respective Class Parent Representatives if you would kindly like to provide food or drink. Please also refer to the letter recently sent by Ms. Passante.

If your child will not be present for the class party for any reason, please ensure that their Secret Santa gift is submitted to the class teacher (if participating) so every student has a gift to open.

Thank you to all parents who have assisted in making this a merry festive period for all.

Stars of the Week

6A – Daniel Hjelle – for producing excellent work during the Making New Materials topic and being more focused;

6A – Arden Fan – for excellent work on Materials and presenting with confidence;

6B – Teo Lechaczynski & Joshua Haynes – for being kind and supportive classmates [voted by members of 6B];

6C – Jack Bruin – for making great improvements in his writing, especially in punctuation. Well done!

In English, we will finish our current unit ‘Let’s Celebrate’, which looks at different cultural celebrations from around the world. We will consider how authors’ use of language can affect a reader. We will look at how non-fiction texts can be adapted for particular purposes as we consider instructions to make a holiday themed lantern.

For STEAM day, the Maths Challenge will involve studying Pascal’s Triangle. In maths lessons, we will continue to work on algebraic proficiency. Students will learn to use and create simple formulae in words, and work with formulae to solve problems. Common errors in this section can arise when incorrectly applying the above mathematical facts. Students should be aware of the difference between metric and imperial measurements, so should revise this if they are uncertain.

We will finish our topic of ‘Making New Materials’. We will dip into History to look at famous artefacts made of certain materials. Our International task will involve tracing the production and consumption of plastic around the globe. Our first topic in Term 2 will be ‘Investigators’, in which students will learn to solve a crime by investigating scientifically.
