Year 11 Get Literary

With the Language exams a thing of the past, the Year 11s are tackling tones, picking through prose and deciding about drama. Yes, the Literature examinations are upon us and we turn our attention to preparation.

The Literature papers focus on three set texts and an unseen. The set texts this year are Stevenson's dark tale of human duality, Jekyll and Hyde; Susan Hill's grisly novel about parental neglect and bullying, I'm the King of the Castle and Arthurs Miller's classic play about guilt and responsibility, All My Sons. In addition to these erudite editions, is the study of the poetry of Thomas Hardy.

On the final Friday before the exams kick off, the English Department hosted a round-robin rotation of activities and revision ideas to fill in any last-minute gaps and to remind students of the importance of essay skills and techniques. With a voluntary group of about thirty eager scholars, we focused on the major themes and ideas of these texts with a run-through of the structure of the papers. Now they are ready!
