Learning From Each Other in IGCSE Languages

31 五月 2016

As you will know, our Year 11 students are currently in the middle of their IGCSE final examinations. At the same time, our Year 10 students are sitting summer exams, which give them an insight into what their peers next to them are doing for real. In the Languages Department, this gave us a golden opportunity for some peer-teaching, where the Year 10 classes could see what the Year 11s have been doing and learn from their advice.

Madame Malcolm-Severn and her Year 11 French class made a fantastic display about their approaches to the exams; this is now up in our languages corridor for all to see. It explains the skills and techniques the students have developed in order to both write and speak excellent French. This display forms part of their leaving legacy to younger students who can now learn from their experience!

Last week, Miss Ford took her Year 10 German class to see the display. Never mind that the display shows French work – the students could still see what the others had learnt and how they had trained for the final exams. The Germanists then returned to the classroom to try out some of the ideas the French class had explained on their display.

This was a great chance for students to see what their peers had been doing – and to learn from someone other than their teacher!
