An overview of the week ahead in Year 2

Information and Reminders.

Thank you to all parents who attended the Academic Review Evenings. We hope the information provided was useful in helping you to support your child at home and inform you of their next steps.

On Thursday 26th January there will be no CCAs, this is to allow students and families to get home safely, as we are aware the traffic could be quite chaotic.

We are looking forward to the Chinese New Year Temple Fair on Sunday and hope to see many of you there!

Star of the Week

2A - Fifi for being a responsible member of her new class.

2B - Elias for being responsible with his belongings.

2C - Samuel for being responsible towards his learning and always trying his best .



This week we will look at the story book Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson. Our learning objectives covered will include:

  • To write poems
  • Learn how to use expanded noun phrases to describe and specify
  • Use of capital letters, full stops, question marks and exclamation marks
  • Develop positive attitudes towards and stamina for writing by: writing for different purposes- story writing
  • To learn poems by heart, performing these with appropriate intonation to make the meaning clear



This week our focus will be position and direction. Our learning objectives covered will include:

  • To use the vocabulary associated with directions
  • To describe position and direction of objects
  • To describe whole, half and quarter turns



This week as geographers we will be looking at a map of the world; we will identify countries that we are familiar with. We will start with China, naming the capital city and locating any key features.

We will then repeat with our home countries, and expand looking at neighbouring countries etc.  We will also look at different countries that we have visited and trace our journey around the globe.

We will work together to identify, the countries travelled through and over, the oceans travelled across, and the types of transport needed to reach the destination.
