Mark Weston

Mark

Head of Higher Education Guidance

Mark attended the University of Oxford and graduated with a degree in English Language and Literature. After several years working in the fields of publishing and media, he completed a PGCE in Secondary English at the UCL Institute of Education. Before moving to BISS Puxi, Mark spent eight years working at a secondary school in London as Deputy Head of Sixth Form and subsequently, as the school’s post-16 Support and Transition Manager.

During this time, Mark was responsible for the organisation and provision of higher education advice and guidance, and the management of the school's university application process. In 2010, Mark completed a postgraduate qualification in Higher Education Advice to enhance his knowledge and skills in this area. He was also the coordinator of the Sixth Form Student Council and acted as a staff governor for several years. As well as working in the area of secondary education, Mark has also gained experience of working in the higher education sector, including a position at King’s College London as a Study Abroad and Exchanges Officer/Registry Officer, where he helped to support the student admissions process, and gained an overview of the US university system. Mark enjoys the opportunity that his work gives him to help students realise their educational and career aspirations. He is keen to make use of the experience he has gained in his career so far to continue helping students advance towards their goals in the stimulating environment that BISS offers both its students and staff.

In his spare time, Mark has undertaken courses in Philosophy, Anthropology and Psychology, and in 2014, completed a Foundation Certificate in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy at the British Psychotherapy Foundation in London. He is a keen music fan and has played the drums in many bands over the years, performing at the Glastonbury Music Festival in 2002. He once completed evening classes in stand-up comedy, but fears that this has done little to improve the quality of his jokes!
