In 2003 Musical Futures was created as an action research programme to find new and imaginative ways of engaging young people in meaningful and sustainable music activities in the UK. This year Musical Futures has arrived at BCB. In upper primary and secondary school this means that all students in year 5, 6, 7 and 8 are receiving informal, workshop style lessons on how to be an ensemble and how to participate in band performances. Students are given chances to learn the electric and bass guitar, drums, keyboard and voice and anyone learning an instrument is encouraged to use it during these lessons. So far its going well. 7 of these students have joined the rock school ASA on Wednesdays and are preparing songs to perform at events throughout the year.
