On Friday 16th June, 7 bands went head to head in a Battle to be named BCBs Battle of the Bands Champions 2017. This event was a showcase of the bands the students had worked on in musical futures lessons and in ASA groups. In secondary, students prepared band performances during the musical futures lessons and went head to head in a semi final (held during classes). The students then voted for the best band from each class to represent them in the finals. Students were also given the option of preparing a band performance in their own time, or during ASAs. Year 6 were also invited to be part of this event and prepared 3 band performances to showcase their achievements in PIPS and music lessons. The competition was sponsored by Opus music (the instrumental lessons company here at BCB) and Boomerangue.com (an online electronics and musical instrument store). Both companies donated a range of exciting prizes and Opus music also contributed to members of staff to act as judges. It was a difficult decision to choose just 3 bands to be named as 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. The judges made their decisions based on 5 categories: Overall Performance, Technical Ability, Effort, Stage presence and Audience enjoyment. The bands that won scored highly in all 5 categories and wowed the audience with their performance of 2 songs, chosen and rehearsed in preparation for this event. 1st Place - Jupiter Rain (Mateo Girala, Mel Miranda, Kyoka Fukuda, Valentina Bini & Gustavo Melgar) 2nd Place -Soundbreakers (Gustavo Melgar Jose Leiva, Enzo Lima) 3rd Place - Super Girls (Haruna, Chloe, Ashley, Siyuan, Bertha) Well done to all who took part. The event was a showcase of musicianship and talent and all at BCB look forward to next years event which will be bigger and better.
