A Global Classroom in São Paulo
At The British College of Brazil, cultural diversity isn’t just something we celebrate—it’s something we live every day. With students representing more than 38 nationalities, our classrooms buzz with languages, traditions, and perspectives from all around the world.
“It’s incredible to meet people from different countries and learn about their cultures,” says Lorena, Year 6. “For about four years my best friends were Swedish and Korean, and I learned so much from them.”
It’s this blend of cultures that makes BCB such a special place to learn. Every conversation, project, and friendship becomes a window into a wider world—helping students grow not only as learners, but as thoughtful, globally minded individuals.
Learning Through Lived Experience
At BCB, children don’t just read about the world in books—they experience it through their peers. Whether they’re working together on a science experiment, debating global issues, or celebrating a cultural festival, students are constantly learning from one another.
“Yes, because we learn from each other,” adds Lele, Year 5.
“In Year 3 IPC (International Primary Curriculum) we studied celebrations like Hanukkah and Christmas, so we learned about how people around the world celebrate differently.”
These everyday exchanges nurture curiosity, respect, and understanding—the foundations of true international education.
Building Empathy and Global Awareness
In such a rich multicultural environment, empathy isn’t something taught; it’s something practiced. Children learn to listen deeply, respect differences, and appreciate the beauty of perspectives other than their own.
“I think it’s great because it shows that our school accepts everybody, no matter where they’re from,” says Lele. “Even if someone is Korean or Brazilian or from somewhere else, everyone is welcome here—and that makes it really fun.”
This awareness helps students become confident global citizens—ready to collaborate, lead, and make a positive difference wherever life takes them.
A curriculum that reflects the world
Our approach to learning mirrors our community: diverse, inclusive, and forward-thinking. The curriculum at BCB is designed to open minds and spark curiosity about the world around us.
From analysing global themes in literature to exploring international case studies in science and geography, students learn to think critically, compassionately, and creatively about the challenges and opportunities that connect us all.
Lorena highlights how assemblies deepen this experience: “
Teachers often share about their own traditions—like a teacher from India talked about Diwali and what it means to her. We’ve also learned about Ramadan and other celebrations, which I think is awesome.”
