The final term of Year 6 is very busy and thrilling, but it is also a very emotional time for our students when they begin to bid farewell to their Primary lives and look forward to the start of their Secondary journey. Here at BIS, the Year 6 and 7 teams collaborate to ensure that the transition process helps our students be well prepared for this step up, and that they feel confident, ready and a lot less nervous!

Last Friday (May 7) five of our Secondary student leaders had an opportunity to hear from expert speakers and exchange ideas with other international students at the FOBISIA Student Leadership Summit hosted by Nexus International School Malaysia. The virtual summit was a memorable event that gave our students many valuable lessons to further improve their leadership skills.

I don’t know about you, but it seems to me that time is just flying by at the moment. It feels that we start each week on Monday morning with lots of time ahead of us, and suddenly it is Friday again! I suppose that is just a sign of a busy life and a purposeful school.

Across the Primary School, we have been focusing on the importance of sleep and well being on children’s physical and emotional well-being. We have been working closely with Family Medical Practice and during the month of April they delivered three parent sessions on the importance of sleep in children. The sessions were delivered by Dr. Maria Santos.

On Wednesday night, BIS Hanoi hosted its inaugural Basketball Showcase, raising money for the Blue Dragon Foundation. The event, organised spectacularly by a quartet of Sixth Form students, Tuong Vy, Tuan Kiet, Hoang Nam, Thanh Tri, was a huge success! Involving a group of young, bidding entrepreneurs selling snacks, drinks and raffle tickets for some amazing prizes, a half time shooting competition and entertaining match commentary.

At BIS Hanoi, we value learning outside of the classroom environment and traditionally arrange a residential trip for Year 12 students to Mai Chau as part of their IB CAS programme. However, due to COVID, this cannot take place this academic year 2020-2021. Therefore, our IB team devised an alternative 4 days off timetable that aimed to foster similar skills to those acquired during the residential trip, particularly team building and community service.
