Last year, our Tu Xuong netball team had a sweeping victory at the interschool netball tournament hosted by An Phu Primary. This year, their aim was to try and maintain the title as the best netball team in Ho Chi Minh City whilst having lots of fun of course!
There were five schools participating, including a very strong team from APP, and it was clear that the other teams had been training hard. The standard this year was much improved and the tournament was played with proper netball rules.
Both BIS teams played four hard-fought games, and first-up was a game against each other! the result of which seemed to set the tone of the day.
After losing the first match against An Phu Primary, spirits were slightly down. However, the team managed to win the second match against AIS after some fantastic goals. Our defenders played brilliantly and ensured the other team didn’t have many chances to shoot. The team was tired after 40 minutes of netball but they stepped up to the challenge of their next game. It was close, but unfortunately another loss. The last match was played against ISHCMC and it was truly nail-biting! Both teams looked like they could take the win. At the final whistle, it was a draw.
The team played against four different schools and were undefeated. Many of the team members had not played netball before and were only introduced to the sport in April. All team members demonstrated the new skills they had learnt and all remained focused throughout the tournament. Together the children showed their new passion and commitment to Netball and played incredibly well. A coach from another school commented "I can’t believe you have only been training for a few weeks. You were brilliant!"
"The Tu Xuong netball team had a total of 8 points which put them in third place. We were all very happy with the result and most importantly we showed good sportsmanship by congratulating the winners of this year’s tournament, An Phu Primary. The positive attitude shown by the children shows that taking part in sporting activities is not always about winning! Well done to the team: Yui, Nina, PO, Nathan, Mei, Kevin, Minh, Jennifer and Minh Anh." Ms Alicia Day, Tu Xuong Coach
"The tournament was a great success and all the children were very excited to have been crowned the winners. They showed great sportsmanship, by congratulating the other teams on their wins and thanked them for coming to BIS. The coaches, Ms Fran and Ms Pauline, were extremely proud of all the children, as once again it showed how perseverance leads to success. Well done!" Ms Frances Curtain, An Phu Primary Coach
