Reflecting on these achievements, our Head of Secondary, Mr Stephen Kay, shared,
“You can all be very, very proud of your results – we know how much effort went into achieving them across the two-year IB Diploma Programme. As I said at graduation, you were a wonderful cohort to work with – full of energy, enthusiasm, and fun, filling our sixth form centre with laughter and joy, and always supporting and guiding each other. You are great role models for our younger students, leaving behind an incredible legacy of care, compassion and achievement. Thank you also to all our teachers and parents at BIS HCMC for providing such wonderful support.”
Excellence in Breadth of Subject Knowledge
The IB Diploma Programme is recognised globally as one of the most academically rigorous and comprehensive qualifications. At BIS HCMC, students have a choice of 30 subjects and select 6 subjects, 3 at Higher level and 3 at Standard Level, ensuring both depth and breadth across disciplines from Korean Literature to Digital Societies and Computer Science. Our Class of 2025 studied a diverse range of subjects, with 26 different subjects at Higher Level and 29 at Standard Level. This year, we saw students achieve an average grade per subject of 5.7 out of a maximum of 7 points - well above the Global average of 4.9 out of 7.
Alongside their subject studies, students complete the IBDP Core, which includes:
● A 4,000-word Extended Essay (EE) on a topic of their choosing
● Theory of Knowledge (TOK), a course in critical thinking
● Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS)
These components allow students to earn up to 3 additional points, on top of the maximum 42 subject points (six subjects, each graded out of seven).
The Class of 2025 excelled not only in their subject choices but also in the IB Core, demonstrating their critical thinking, academic mindset and ability to write in-depth on a topic. Our students achieved an incredible average of 2.2 points out of the maximum of 3 points.
In addition, 14.2% of our students were awarded a Bilingual Diploma, a testament to their linguistic talent and cultural fluency. This year, our bilingual diplomas reflected the rich diversity of our school community, with students achieving bilingual status in English and Vietnamese as well as English and Korean.
The IBDP doesn’t just assess knowledge; it evaluates how students think, question, analyse, and apply learning in real-world contexts. This combination of academic challenge, global perspective, and independent learning is exactly what makes the IB such powerful preparation for success at university and beyond.
University Destinations
Our class of 2025 received hundreds of impressive university offers with an outstanding 21 offers from 6 of the top 10 universities globally, including Imperial College London, University of Oxford, University of Cambridge, Stanford University, National University Singapore (NUS), and University College London (UCL). Additionally, our students have achieved 3 offers to Ivy League institutions in the USA, Cornell University and the University of Pennsylvania, and secured spots in some of the most prestigious universities across Asia in Singapore, Seoul, and Hong Kong, including offers from all three prestigious Korean SKY universities as well as Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). These groundbreaking offers are a testament to the exceptional dedication and diligence of our 2025 cohort, but also to the unwavering support of our college and university guidance counsellors and teachers.
