The SISAC U11 Football City Championships were hosted in all their glory earlier this week.
Our courageous and determined girls’ A and B teams headed out towards District 7 full of gusto and excitement.
The A team started off strong, attacking with every opportunity they could get. Their opponents the Canadian International School, defended resolutely, and it took a goal in the second half from BIS to finally break them down.
Second game in the group pitted the girls against Saigon South International School, and a sterner test. Both teams had opportunities, but BIS succumbed to a late goal from the SSIS striker who had posed a threat all game.
The two results were enough to qualify us into the semi-finals against the winners of the other group, ISHCMC. And another very tight game again saw our girls lose by a single goal.
And so our BIS girls final game witnessed them compete in the 3/4 playoff against the hosts The American International School. What started out as a tight game, suddenly transformed, as BIS applied constant pressure on the home team, and once we’d scored our first goal, AmIS capitulated through tiredness, and conceded another four, giving our BIS girls an impressive 5-0 victory.
A great day of impressive football was played by all, and all our BIS girls footballers are now buzzing for the next competition. Once again, they have made us proud, and are a credit to the school and girls sports.

On Monday 29th October, 9 girls from the BIS B team participated in the annual SISAC Football City Championships at the American International School in the elite A group. This was a very competitive tournament as it included the 6 best teams in the city.
Game 1: BIS v ISHCMC
The first game was against ISHCMC. This was a very close game. Despite ISHCMC’s players being a year older than the BIS girls, this did not intimidate them – they held their positions well, supported one another on attack with some great passing and moving. Unfortunately, BIS didn’t manage to find the required space needed for a shot at goal and due to BIS’s fantastic defensive skills, ISHCMC also struggled to shoot at goal. The score of this game was 0-0 until the last 5 minutes where ISHCMC managed to apply pressure on our defence causing BIS to lose the ball, ISHCMC’s striker then dribbled the ball towards goal and scored. 1-0 to ISHCMC.
Game 2: BIS v AMIS
This game was an exciting one to watch from the side-line. There was plenty of action; BIS’s goal keeper Amelia executed some good goal kicks to Khanh Linh and Kyu-In who were then able to control the ball, pass it up the pitch to the midfield players’; Casi, Phuong An and Daphne. Our midfielders had the skills to dribble the ball further down the pitch and were able to find Kathy the striker who was in the correct position, just in front of the goal. Kathy received the ball confidently from Phuong Anh, dribbled forcefully through AMIS’s defence, took a shot at goal and scored!
Not long after this goal, Phuong Anh received a beautiful pass from Daphne and dribbled the ball from the half way line up to the edge of the goalkeeper’s box and with a powerful kick, she went for goal and shot the ball in the bottom right hand corner! Despite BIS playing awesome football, AMIS also had numerous shots at goal and were a very challenging team to play against. Just before full-time the score was 2-2, however a few minutes before the whistle blew, AMIS scored a third and final goal making it 2-3 to AMIS.
Game 3: BIS v CIS
BIS girls had one final game to play to determine the 5th/6th position of this tournament. After losing two games, their confidence was affected, nevertheless, they were willing to persevere and give this last game everything they had! Within minutes, CIS’s goalkeeper put the ball on the ground ready for a goal-kick but she miss-kicked it, allowing Casi from the BIS team to sprint forward and pressurise the goal keeper. Casi won the ball, took a shot at goal and scored! This goal boosted the girls’ team cohesion. Approximately 5 minutes in to the second half, CIS stepped up their game and were playing very good football – they made some quick, accurate passes up the pitch towards BIS’s goal, our defenders could not stop them. They managed to score making the full-time result 1-1. Due to the tie, this meant our girls had to go head to head against CIS in a penalty shoot-out. This was a gripping penalty shoot-out, the players and supporters were so anxious.
Amelia, BIS’s goalkeeper, was an absolute superstar as she saved three out of three penalties – an incredible achievement! Amelia’s reaction skills and bravery made it impossible for CIS to score past her. Well done to Phuong Anh, Khanh Linh and Casi for taking the penalties. Casi was the BIS player that managed to score. This meant that BIS beat CIS!!
Whilst many other schools were participating in lower divisions across the city on this day, both our A and B girls’ teams proved themselves worthy of competing in this elite group. The B team finished in 5th place overall. BIS B girls are now ranked the 5th best school out of 13 schools across the city!
Congratulations!

It was an early start for the SISAC tournament over at SSIS. The tournament was played over 6 pitches in a “double knock out” format. BIS B team had to play AMIS D and then AMIS C. Our third guaranteed game would be against a strong ISHCMC B team.
In both the first and second games BIS won comfortably with Hugo, Lewis and Dong Hee scoring goals. Ethan also looked strong on the ball and captained the team well in these first two fixtures. Duc Anh, Gia Hung and Minhyeok also did their part by conceding only one goal. Ken scored his first goal for the school in this game. The third game verses ISHCMC proved a much tighter match. Possession ebbed and flowed with both teams looking likely to score. A few crucial diving saves from Minhyeok kept the score at 0-0. The deadline was finally broken through a brilliant finish from Hugo. The score ended up 2-0 to BIS. The boys worked incredibly hard in this fixture and were deservedly the winners.
The final game was played verses EIS. This team had already lost in the tournament to ISHCMC so the boys were very confident going into the match. From the first kick off the boys realized that this would not be the case, they conceded in the first 12 seconds!
From then on the match was very close with BIS piling on the pressure from goal kicks and set pieces being played long. Eventually BIS equalized and this reinvigorated the side who then went on the attack to score more. BIS continued to threaten from midfield and scored three more goals in quick succession. In the remaining 10 minutes BIS looked to maintain possession to keep hold of the lead which they did very well.
The boys were a pleasure to take away on this fixture and truly were a credit to the P.E. Department and School as a whole.
WELL DONE!
