ADMISSIONS STILL OPEN FOR TERM 2
Another year has gone by and so has another Drama FOBISIA festival. It was difficult to see how this one could surpass the last and yet this one was the best yet.
This year’s festival was held at the Prince of Wales Island International School in the diverse city of Penang. The theme of ‘It’s All Greek To Me’ required students to collaborate with their peers from different schools in the region to research and explore a well-known character from a Greek tragedy. Each theatre company collaborated to put together a performance that showcased their hard work.
The British International School, Ho Chi Minh City sent 15 students from across Key Stage 3 and 4 (Years 8 to 10) to participate in four days of excitement, learning, collaboration and performance. With a hectic timetable to follow, students’ time was split between spending time with their theatre company and participating in a range of workshops: mask work, Malaysian drumming workshop, how to create an effective chorus and a lot more weird and wonderful activities.
Saturday’s performances showcased really thoughtful and carefully devised performances and we are really proud of everything the students have accomplished. Each performance was different from the others and if you browse through the photos from the festival, you’ll be able to see how the students were experimenting with different styles of theatre, staging, audience interaction and choreography.
On the final evening of the festival, students attended a disco. They put their glad rags on, ate at the ‘all you can eat’ buffet, watched Malaysian dancers perform, sang lots of songs, danced together and had a wonderful time. It was lots of fun and it gave students time to socialise with and spend time with their new and existing friends. The students have left the Drama FOBISIA festival with new ideas, new skills, new friends and new memories that will last a lifetime.
As the festival is getting bigger and more popular, it will be changing to accommodate the number of students who wish to attend. We can’t wait to share the news of what the next year will bring for the Drama FOBISIA Festival!
