Community service from everyone at BIS continues to shine. The Community Book Swap Event has run across both the Junior and Early Years & Infant Campuses, supported by staff, students and the PTG.
Community service at BIS continues to shine. The Community Book Swap Event at our primary campuses, supported by staff, students and the PTG is a perfect example of our community working together to make a difference for our partners.
The opportunity to read is something we often take for granted. At BIS we are very fortunate to have an extremely well equipped and diverse library at both the EY&I and Junior Campus. Whilst we always encourage our students to read as much as possible, for some children in our local community, the chance to pick up and enjoy a book might be limited. This week, at both the Junior and Early Years and Infant campuses, the book swap was held to not only give our students a chance to swap old stories for new adventures but also to collect reading resources for our local community.
In the weeks prior to the event, the house captains, librarians and PTG supported by promoting and collecting unwanted books from home. Through generous donations, there were almost 1000 books across both campuses donated towards the swap. On Wednesday and Thursday, the swap tables were set for our BIS bookworms who excitedly sifted through the many baskets of books.
In line with our community service values at BIS, the opportunity to share both experiences and resources with others is a wonderful act of kindness and we thank all who contributed towards this event. All suitable remaining books will be donated to ‘Loreto Vietnam’, an international non-government organisation that addresses Sustainability Development Goal #4: Quality education.
