On Monday and Tuesday our A and B Team Basketballers made the trip over to AMIS school and Canadian International School for the annual SISAC basketball competition.

Girls A Basketball Team

On Monday our A team Basketballers made the trip over to AMIS school. BIS were put into a group against AIS and AMIS. The girls played AIS in the first game of the tournament. The final score of the first game was AIS 13 and BIS 12, therefore, we lost by just one point! In this game, we played very well and were determined to get the first win of the tournament. Unfortunately, it was not to be and the girls were very gracious in defeat. In the second game against AMIS, BIS were outclassed by some excellent play and lost by 8 points.

This would mean that BIS would play against ABC school in the 5th and 6th place match. Again the girls worked really hard and played well as a team. BIS won the match 12 points to 7. This would be the girls first win of the season.

The girls played the games with an excellent level of sportsmanship. Well done BIS!

Final result: 5th place

Team list: Dieu Ngoc, Gia Han, HyoWon, Nghi Van, Siyeon, Hoai Thuong and Celina

Girls B Basketball Team

The six schools that competed were; BIS, BVIS, AIS TD, CIS and SING. These six teams were split into two pools; Pool A and Pool B The games started at 1pm and finished at 6pm, five hours of non-stop basketball!

BIS B team played a total of three games throughout the competition. Unfortunately, they lost 12-3 to SSIS and 20-6 to AIS TD despite battling hard on the court and trying their absolute best!

Losing the first two games meant that we finished 3rd in Pool B and were then having to fight for 5th position against BVIS from Pool A. This game was grippingly close during the first half. BVIS scored, BIS scored, BVIS scored, BIS scored…. eventually, BIS managed to push harder on defence causing BVIS to make numerous turnovers, they leapt up high for rebounds winning the ball often and scored a total of 8 baskets throughout the game, making the final score 15-8 to BIS! An awesome and well-deserved win.

These girls played so well as a team, learnt a lot about competitive basketball, teamwork and sportsmanship.

Well done to Mai Phuong, Sunny, Minh Chau, Yuri, Suri and Annie.

Boys A and B Basketball Team

This year, both our A and B teams were in the same pool and same bracket. For the 1st game, both our teams played against each other and as expected, A team bested the B team. On the onset of the tournament, both our teams played their very best. Mr. Richard’s team A finished 3rd place while the B team on the 6th place. Being counted in the “A” Pool this year was a challenge as both our teams had to play head-on in the elimination round. Nevertheless, it was a great experience for all our BIS kids, giving us the encouragement to practise more for next year’s City Championship.
