BIS HCMC students once again secure places at the top three universities in Canada

We are thrilled with the success of our Class of 2025 graduates, with eleven students receiving multiple offers to the top three Canadian universities!  Congratulations to all of you!

Canada continues to be an appealing destination for our students, thanks to its world-class universities and vibrant international cities like Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal.

This year, we are proud to see nine students — Aaryan, Axelle, Davina, Jimmy, Kevin, Kynthia, Matheo, Sophie and Thao Ann — receive offers from the University of Toronto!

The University of Toronto is a regular visitor to our school, and our nine successful students had the opportunity to meet with Harriet Pham from their International Admissions Office during her recent visit to BIS HCMC. Ranked as Canada’s top university, and in the top 25 universities globally, The University of Toronto offers three distinct campuses—St. George, Mississauga, and Scarborough—each providing a unique academic experience.

Many of these nine also received offers from other top universities in Canada as well as other universities around the world.  These include McGill University and University of British Columbia in Canada, University College London and Kings College London in the UK, University of Southern California in the USA and Erasmus University in The Netherlands. 

We are thrilled that Kynthia, Jimmy and Thao Ann have already decided to take up their University of Toronto offers.

"It has always been a dream of mine to study at the University of Toronto ever since I was a kid," said Jimmy. "I am beyond excited to finally make it a reality, and I can't wait to be on campus soon!"

Thao Ann shared a similar sentiment: “Studying at the University of Toronto has always been one of my biggest goals, and I’m incredibly proud to have achieved it. I’m looking forward to all the opportunities and experiences that lie ahead.”

In many ways, it isn’t surprising that Toronto is so popular with our students. The international outlook our students possess fits so well with the diverse community at the University of Toronto. The city of Toronto itself offers a truly global experience, with almost half of its residents born outside of Canada.

The offers our students received cover a wide range of majors including Biology, Physical & Mathematical Sciences, Public Policy, International Development Studies, Financial Economics, Management and International Business, Health Studies, and Nutritional Sciences.

We are elated to see that two of these students, Matheo and Sophie, also received offers from McGill University, amongst the top 30 universities globally, and have chosen this university as their final destination.

“I am very grateful to have received great offers from some Canadian universities, especially from the University of Toronto and McGill University, which are both dream schools of mine,” said Sophie. “I am excited to spend the next few years exploring Canada, and more specifically Montreal, and experience Canadian university life.”

Matheo added: “I’m incredibly honoured to have received offers from top Canadian universities, including the University of Toronto and McGill University. McGill has always been a dream school of mine, and I’m excited about the opportunities ahead. I’m really looking forward to moving abroad for the first time and experiencing Western culture and student life in Canada.”

Receiving an offer from McGill is just as competitive as University of Toronto, but both Sophie and Matheo succeeded and are now preparing for the melting pot of cultures and languages that is the city of Montreal. Bonne chance, Sophie and Matheo!

We must also highlight the third major institution among Canada’s top-ranked universities: the University of British Columbia (UBC). Situated on Canada’s stunning west coast, UBC ranks among the world’s top 40 universities and offers a wonderfully diverse and inclusive learning environment. Davina, Hannah, Jimmy, Nafiz and Thao Ann all received offers from UBC, further demonstrating that BIS students are highly sought after by all top universities in Canada and around the world.

These achievements really are a testament to the incredible hard work, commitment and determination of our students, alongside the expertise and support provided by our world class teachers and University Guidance Counsellors. And as they have come to the end of their IB Diploma Programme they really have unlocked a whole world of possibilities.

Recent changes in Canadian student visa policy have had minimal impact on the country’s top-ranked institutions, which continue to attract outstanding students from around the globe. The University of Toronto, the University of British Columbia, and McGill University continue to issue Provincial Attestation Letters (PALs) at the same rate as before, enabling students to obtain their visas without issue.
