Congratulations to our Global Campus Comic Book Competition runners up: Tiancheng, Ester, Carmen, Kausar and Edward from 1 Grasshopper class.
The task was to create a comic book story about a superhero who saves the planet. The children worked collaboratively and created the superhero character, ‘Sea Saver’. Sea Saver wants to stop water pollution in our oceans once and for all.
On Saturday 19th January, 18 BISB students climbed the height of Africa’s tallest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro, to raise money for the Tanzania Expedition 2019. Students asked friends and family to sponsor them in this challenge and the amount raised was close to 500,000 HUF.
This week our Primary school has been enjoying Maths Week. Morning Brainteasers, Loopy Lego Challenges, Tangram Puzzles and a Shape Scavenger Hunt were just some of the fun activities the students took part in over the week. Our dedicated Year 6 House Captains and Peer Mentors were on hand to collect house points and supervise the lunchtime activities.
DVAC U19 Girls Volleyball – CHAMPIONS!
Our KS4/5 girls woke up very early to travel to Bratislava for the annual DVAC U19 Girls Volleyball Tournament last Saturday. After a short nap the soundtrack of Mamma Mia helped energise the team and as a result, the girls were unstoppable for the rest of the day. They played with passion and grit and won all their matches. BISB became DVAC champions again, defending their title.
Year 10 IGCSE Art students are working on Natural Forms charcoal drawings in response to photographs by German naturalist Karl Blossfeldt. The drawings show the fantastic progress their drawing skills have made since September. Look out for them displayed around the school!
Monday got off to an exciting start with the launch of the BISB Maths Week Code Breaking competition. At the time of writing, over 248 different entries have been received from staff, parents and students and the level of ingenuity shown has been absolutely outstanding. The winners of each of the three categories will be announced at the beginning of next week, along with the solution to each of the five codes.
As part of their new Topic unit, “Chocolate,” the students from Year 3 visited the Bonbonetti chocolate factory on the Pest side of the city. Once there, the students were treated to a wonderful experience.
At BISB, we believe that the richness of our multilingual and multicultural community is something to celebrate. Our common language may well be English, but our common value is diversity. Appreciating other languages helps us to nurture our intercultural understanding and allows us to embrace diversity.
Students of the British International School Budapest have once again achieved strong results in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. BISB’s initial average score this year is 2½ points higher than the IB global average, maintaining the gap between ourselves and other IB schools around the world.
Congratulations to our team that played at the DVAC volleyball tournament in Vienna last weekend! The girls finished in 4th place, the boys finished in 1st place! Well done and many thanks to the coaches.
