As part of their new Topic unit, “Chocolate,” the students from Year 3 visited the Bonbonetti chocolate factory on the Pest side of the city. Once there, the students were treated to a wonderful experience.

Firstly, there was an informative film shown. Next, there was a walk through a jungle to see what cacao trees and cocoa pods actually look like. After that, the students had an information session to learn about the ingredients of different types of chocolate. Then the intrepid Year 3 students got ready to enter the factory’s production area by putting on white laboratory coats and blue hair nets! What a sight! No pictures were permitted in this highly secret part of the factory!

After watching much of the production process, the children left the factory floor and tried a new peach-flavoured variety of “Tibi” chocolate; delicious according to most. Finally, all of the Year 3 students were given a special Bonbonetti gift bag of various types of chocolate to take home and enjoy. I wonder if they shared it with their families.  We would like to thank the staff at Bonbonetti for hosting our Year 3 students in what was a great way to begin our learning about chocolate.
