Over the last two weeks, the Nursery children have been focusing on the well-loved story 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' by Michael Rosen. They have been taking part in many different activities to explore the book in different ways!
We explored each terrain of the story through movement, collages, and through music. We did some yoga in which the children were able to introduce some new movements to represent their adventure. Using the musical instruments, the children had to think about what it might sound like as we walked through the swishy swashy grass or through the thick oozy mud and how fast or slow they needed to play their instruments. They have been making their own representations of bears with paper plates, water colour painting and playdough.
The children were able to recall the story, repeated the refrains and acting it out. At the end of the week, the children had the opportunity to go on their own Bear Hunt and walking through each part of the story using grass, mud, water, flour, plants and crawling through the cave at the end! We had such fun and the children got a feel for the different textures!
