Year 5 students have been working together in small teams to compose their class battles and perform a unique piece of music to their class peers.
We started with a brainstorm discussion and multi-step problems and even created a physical tableau to recreate the scene we are envisioning. We took photos and analysed them together and started to select the best instruments for our groups. It was more than a pleasure seeing students grow their composing skills from several simple sounds into the finest tunes and rhythmical phrases.
Not only that we tied this learning to the Year 5 Topic but we also used a chance to tell our musical stories as a part of Book Week at BSB Sanlitun and explore programmatic piece of music Ambush from Ten Sides that tells a true story of an Ancient Chinese battle.
