Join Our Open Morning
On Wednesday 29th March Year 5 and 6 students took part in an Ultimate Frisbee training seminar run by professional ultimate frisbee player Sun Dawei, hosted at Si De Park. Coach Sun is a former player for the Chinese national Ultimate Frisbee team and he also recently led his team Spark Ultimate to victory at the 2023 University of Nottingham Ningbo Open. Coach Sun has many years of playing and coaching frisbee and was a great inspiration to our students.
At the beginning of each session, Coach Sun gave all students an explanation of the rules and tactics of Ultimate Frisbee. In the first exercise, the students learned how to pass and catch the frisbee in small groups. It was challenging at first, but it was great to see our students devote themselves to the task and gradually improve their accuracy.
In the second drill, students learned how to run into different attacking positions in order to receive a pass. Coach Sun personally guided each student and explained how the drill connected to different game situations. This enabled the students to understand the aim of the drill and the importance of moving efficiently and communicating with their teammates. Once they had made a few catches, our students grew in confidence and were keen to challenge themselves.
At the end of the class, the students applied their skills to some short matches. It was great for us to see how our students put their newly-learned skills into action and see them score points by making great attaching runs and catching accurately. Most importantly, the students all had great fun and Coach Sun was impressed with their effort and attitude to learning. On behalf of the PE Department, I would like to thank Coach Sun for his expert guidance and instruction. This was a fantastic learning opportunity for our students and we hope to cooperate with more professional athletes in the future.
