My bean is a little seed

My bean is a little seed | BSB Sanlitun - My bean is a little seed

This week in Reception we learnt about different vegetables. The children talked about their favourite vegetables and why they liked each one. Some children love tomatoes because they are sweet, and others love carrots because they are bright and orange and cucumbers because they are super juicy! Reception have been observing beans grow from seeds to plants and write what they see in their Bean Diary. They have written sentences such as ‘My bean is a little seed.’, ‘My bean has roots.’ and ‘It is a plant.’

The children got their hands dirty much like a true farmer, planting their bean seedlings in nutrient soil. They used shovels to fill cups with soil then gently moving their bean seedlings from their cotton bags to their soil cups. Finally, adding another layer of soil, using their hands, and gently patting down their seedlings.

We also made our own vegetables with soft potty. Using our hands to mold the soft potty into carrots, potatoes, tomatoes and more! The children used their vegetables to write sentences such as ‘I like carrots because they are sweet!’ and ‘We cook potatoes to make chips.’ This added to the children’s wonderful plant and vegetable art throughout their classrooms which allowed them to practise their vocabulary and communication.
