Join Our Open Morning (for students ages 0-4)
It has been a great week for all students in Chinese classrooms. Let’s look inside some of the highlights of learning and activities there.
In Nursery the children have been learning about sea creatures. They listened to the stories about dolphins as well as other sea animals. They enjoyed the songs and chants about sea animals and tried their best to sing along. They also talked about how to help caring for the environment.
Year 1 native group pupils have learned a text 雪地里的小画家 (little painter in the snow). They have tried hard to practise the new Chinese characters and words through fun activities. They have also applied their flexible thinking skills to discuss who else could draw pictures in the snow and what they could draw.
In Year 3, native group students had fun with the Chinese idiom story about a tiger and a fox狐假虎威 (A fox vaunting in the tuition of a tiger). They made efforts to understand the story by reading it fluently. They also practised their target Chinese characters with puzzle games.
Students in Year 4 native group learnt a poem about how our ancestor lived in the forest祖先的摇篮 (ancestor’s cradle). After comprehending the text through fluent reading, the students worked very hard to write the new Chinese characters. They have distinguished the near shaped words through a variety of fun activities.

Storytelling is at the heart of everything we do, and it extends far beyond literacy. It is transdisciplinary, meaning children naturally integrate their knowledge of phonics into storytelling, create maths stories, and weave in elements of science, curiosity, and their understanding of the world.
This term, Year 2 have been learning about many interesting people in our ‘What makes someone inspirational?' Topic. They have explored space pioneers, technology forerunners, civil right activists, inventors and many other inspiring individuals.
