On 5-9th February, we celebrated Children's Mental Health Week. The theme for the week was My Voice Matters which is about empowering children and young people by providing them with the tools they need to express themselves.
When we feel empowered, there’s a positive impact on our wellbeing. Children who feel that their voices are heard and can make a difference have a greater sense of community and self-esteem. This year at BSB Sanlitun, we want students of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to be empowered to work together to create a positive change for their mental health and wellbeing. During Children’s Mental Health Week, we wanted all BSB pupils to be able to say – and believe - “My Voice Matters.”
All of the students wrote on big boards things about themselves. They wrote about their interests, things they are proud of, their dreams for the future and other inspirational quotes. In Primary the boards have been placed on display along the east staircases going up to the Year 3 and Chinese corridor, and next to the ping pong tables in the sports space downstairs. In Early Years they are up in both of the staircases at eye level of the children going up. Throughout the week, classes took part in different activities and lessons incorporated opportunities for children to have their voice heard.
There was 'think, pair, share', holding the cuddly toy when you want to speak, using up tokens for every answer given in a class and games such as taboo. Children also made suggestions about how to improve the school. It was a great week and a lot of fun was had by everyone!
