Year 3 Flower Power

Year 3 Flower Power | BSB Sanlitun - Year 3 Flower Power

This week the Year 3 were learning all about the process a plant uses to absorb water up through the roots and around the rest of the plant.

First the children were given four different types of plants to use in this experiment, white lilies, roses, tulips and a stick of celery. Next, they added different coloured food colouring to the water in the glass beaker and stirred it up. They placed the different plants/flowers in the beaker and left the experiment to work its magic for a few hours.

Only one hour later, they excitedly notice the colours of the petals changing and were closely observing them for the rest of the day. The following day the flowers had almost completely changed colour. The children thought they looked very beautiful and were amazed that the colour was able to move up the plant to the leaves and petals even though they never touched the water.
