The Year 1 children really enjoyed the author visit from Emily Gravett last week. They were so excited to have met another author and felt very lucky. This week, the children were even more excited to find out that they were becoming authors themselves.
After reading our story 'There's a Tiger in the Garden', the Year 1s had the chance to innovate their own story. First, we changed the character and the setting. Next, we thought about past tense verbs (even some irregular ones) to describe what the new animal had done in the new place. We made a plan with labels and then used the plans to write our own stories!
The children were challenged to write stories that would make their teachers go WOW and they really did not disappoint. Time connectives, adjectives, onomatopoeias, alliteration, irregular verbs - you name it, they used it!
A big thank you to Emily Gravett for coming to visit us and inspiring our Year 1 children to be creative in their own stories - we hope they remember their teachers when they become famous authors!

Year 1 Lions Class Teacher
Here, at BSB Sanlitun, we were pleased to host two weeks of visits of two Juilliard specialists from New York, across 3 full working days. Our Primary students got to experience a variety of lessons and teaching styles as Nick Mahmat and Brian Drye stepped into our classrooms and led music and drama activities.
What a wonderful day we had hosting our annual Chinese New Year Temple Fair on campus on Sunday. This great community event included games, a Lion Dance, Dragon Dance, a face changing performance, traditional crafts, a bouncy castle, food vendors and gift stalls. Thanks to everyone who made the event possible and magical!
