Parent Partnership Session - Being Future Ready

Parent Partnership Session - Being Future Ready
Parent Partnership Session - Being Future Ready
This week's Parent Partnership Series focuses on 'future proofing' to prepare BSKL for the world beyond BSKL, with presentations from some of our student leaders. Here's a message from Mr Alexander who led the session.
It was wonderful to see so many parents at this week's 'Parent Partnership Series' on Wednesday. Initially entitled 'Student Development & Leadership', my research and preparation for the event gave me cause to reconsider whether the title gave sufficient importance to the topic. For many of us growing up we simply aspired to jobs that we knew of or where we may have been influenced by someone else to pursue. However, the world is rapidly changing and many of the jobs of tomorrow may not even have been imagined yet. The title 'Being Future Ready' illustrated the need to provide our students with more than just development or leadership opportunities but to ensure we 'future proof' them to enter the world of higher education and employment safe in the knowledge they are equipped with the academic qualifications, skills, experiences and character traits they need to thrive and flourish beyond BSKL.

The presentation focused on what it means to be 'future ready' and what we at BSKL are doing to provide the conditions to enable students to build their portfolios through experiences and reflection. We had the opportunity to hear from six wonderful students who described their journey through their BSKL career and how they have developed many of the skills and qualities which they will require when they leave BSKL. I was delighted that they also focused on the positive wellbeing they have derived from their experiences and how they have integrated PERMAH into their everyday activities. We also got an opportunity to hear from Anna Champion, Head of Early Careers and Group Coaching at Jardines Matheson in Hong Kong who was able to articulate the need for students to focus on this key area moving forward and the importance of developing these skills in preparation for entering a modern workplace.

I would like to say a huge thank you to Eisa, Rishi, Oleg, Shan Li, Alison and Serena for their presentations.
