In terms of academic success, reading is a foundation stone: children that read well (and read for pleasure) succeed more than children that do not. (It is also good to note that reading also improves wellbeing outcomes). It is too important to ignore, which is why at BSKL it is central to our primary curriculum.
It was great to have so many parents in for this workshop. The session revolved around The Big 5 of Reading (phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension) and why these ideas are so crucial in reading development.
