Launch of BSKL Secondary Prayer Room

Launch of BSKL Secondary Prayer Room
A Muslim prayer room was recently launched in the Secondary Campus just in time for Ramadan thanks to the efforts of the Student Council team.

The Student Council team put together and succeeded in a mini project of making a prayer room for the Muslim students. My friend Maryam and I used to go down to the basement to pray because it was the only prayer room other than the one in Primary School. However, the room was inconvenient due to the distance from our classes which often resulted in us being late and not being in a suitable condition for our needs.

Coincidentally, both Maryam and I got into the Student Council and that became the project we wanted to start. We brought it up to Mr. Alexander, and we immediately set up a meeting with Dr. Brown and Ms. Humphrey. We also welcomed two new team members, Faeq and Armee.

We all worked together, along with Ms. Deela, the Facilities Manager, to build the prayer room for Muslim students, with the goal of finishing it before Ramadan. After numerous meetings, many deadlines, and much planning, we successfully launched the prayer room on Wednesday, March 22nd, 2023, just in time for Ramadan to begin the next day.

From 8:00 to 8:30 a.m., a few members of the school's Muslim community read Surah Yaseen together in celebration of the opening of the prayer room and the beginning of Ramadan.

I am overjoyed to be leading this incredible team of people who all worked hard to make this a huge success. Thank you so much to Dr. Brown, Ms. Humphrey, Mr. Alexander, and Ms. Deela for your assistance in making this all possible. And a huge thank you to the prayer room team, Maryam, Faeq, and Armee, who put in every effort and completed every task to perfection.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank Aliya and her team on the Student Council for their hard work in introducing a new prayer room to BSKL Secondary.  They first raised this with me in the Student Council a couple of months ago and I appreciate the credit they have extended to myself and my colleagues for supporting the team. However, the full credit must go to Aliya and her team for their commitment, enthusiasm and dedication in bringing this initiative to fruition. They have led this initiative from start to finish and I am extremely proud of what they have achieved. This is a fantastic example of the initiatives the Student Council have been working on in recent months and they look forward to updating parents on further improvements in the future.
