Last week BSKL celebrated ‘Science Week’. This coincides with British Science Week and saw several events taking place to engage students with this year’s theme of ‘Connections’.
The week was introduced with a Science Quiz during connections on the 8th March which explored students’ science general knowledge. The quiz was sat In house teams and the results of the quiz will be announced in next week’s assembly.
During form time each day last week there was a 3,2,1 newsletter which was created by our student ambassadors. It provided students with interesting facts, inspirational quotes as well as an example of an interesting Science-based career they might not have heard of before.
KS3 explored the theme of connections during our ‘Connecting the dots’ Forensic Science themed lessons. Students had to analyse samples from our ‘murder scene’ as well as samples from suspects who could have committed the crime. They used a range of chemical analysis techniques to find out they who was most likely to have committed the murder.
Each lunchtime last week the library was turned into our Science Cinema. Students were able to take some time to relax and watch episodes from Netflix’s ‘Our Universe’ series. This series explores the relationship between creation of the Universe and how all energy and particles have led to and sustain life on Earth.
Sadly our ‘Science Display’ competition is yet to have any entries but in the coming months we will be focusing on creating a more engaging environment in the Science corridor.
I would like to thank out Science Ambassadors Hadi Zaman, Lizzy Yee, Isabelle Stravens and Jamie Ross for their contribution to these events and their continued work to raise the profile of Science across the school.
Alice Smith Science Fair: Results
Science week follows on from our very successful Science Fair held at the start of the month. We were excited to take our top 4 teams to Alice Smith on 14th March to compete with other schools in the city.
I am delighted to announce that one of our teams fought off tough competition and were placed 3rd. Well done to Jeremey Ooi, Marjorie Taufan Paesano and Ann Jee Tan for their extremely innovative and exciting ‘Chicken Terminator’ project!
Thank you to Dr Ainsworth and Ms Russool for organising the trip and accompanying our students to Alice Smith.
Good nutrition is essential for children’s overall health and development, impacting their physical growth, cognitive function, and emotional wellbeing.
As we approach the final week of this term, it’s the perfect moment to pause, reflect, and celebrate the incredible achievements of our students over the past months.
