Academics, Pathways, and Student Support – Parent Presentation
Academics, Pathways, and Student Support – Parent Presentation
On 4th September, we were pleased to welcome a large group of parents to BSKL for our presentation on Academics, Pathways, and Student Support in Secondary.
Dr Bruce Geddes, Deputy Head for Academics, opened the event by exploring the principle that only thinking leads to learning, and how this underpins our ETC teaching model. He went on to give an overview of the subjects taught from Years 7 to 9, before outlining how students gradually specialise through GCSEs, A-levels and on to university.
Mrs Karolina Malinowska, Head of Sixth Form, then introduced the breadth of our A-level provision. She highlighted the personalised support available to students as they make their choices, and spoke about the Year 12 internship programme, which provides valuable opportunities to gain experience beyond the classroom.
Mr Daniel Green, Assistant Head for Pathways and Learning Support, shared how BSKL approaches differentiation through our learning pathways. He described the benefits already evident in teaching and learning, before giving an overview of the support we provide to all students, including through our dedicated EAL and Learning Support teams.
Parents were also invited to join us for coffee and questions afterwards, which led to many thoughtful conversations.
Photography for the event was carried out by Isabelle, one of our Sixth Form students. She did an outstanding job, as you can see from the accompanying images!
