When we launched the competition, we had no idea of the enthusiasm that this event would bring. 150 students from Primary and Secondary entered and over the last two weeks, we ran preliminaries and finals for the Secondary part of the competition. In the finals, students eloquently answered questions at random in the foreign language they are studying in front of a school assembly in a quick-fire quiz style competition. The whole process, from students learning questions and answers, through the qualifier with teachers, students polishing their performance to competing in the show case finale, really displayed competition as a springboard to success. Normans, Romans, Saxons and Vikings spoke with spontaneity and a level of accuracy that will serve them so well in exam situations in the coming years and more importantly, readying them for real life situations in the world of work and study, making them future ready. I congratulate all participants on their great efforts and the ambition they showed in competing in such a public forum. Points earned by medal winners will be combined with the Primary competition medal points to determine the overall winning House next month.
