Week 2, Term 2, 2025/2026
As we move further into the academic year, this week marks a particularly important and purposeful time for our students.

With the launch of mock examinations, the hosting of Parent–Teacher Conferences (PTCs), and a continued focus on engaging project-based learning during drop-down days for students in Years 7–9, there is a strong sense of shared endeavour across our school community.

Mock examinations play a vital role in preparing students for future external assessments. Beyond providing valuable exam practice, mocks help students develop effective revision strategies, time management skills, and confidence in a supportive and reassuring environment. They also allow teachers to identify strengths and areas for development, ensuring that teaching and support can be carefully targeted in the months ahead. We encourage students to approach this period with focus and balance, recognising that mock exams are an opportunity for learning, growth, and reflection rather than a final judgement.

Alongside the mock exam cycle, we are pleased to be hosting Parent–Teacher Conferences. These meetings offer a valuable opportunity for open and constructive dialogue between home and school. PTCs enable families to gain insight into their child’s progress, engagement, and next steps, while also celebrating effort and success. We greatly value these conversations and the strong partnerships they foster in supporting each student’s academic journey and wellbeing. As always, teachers are happy to arrange further conversations beyond these appointments for any parents who would welcome additional discussion.

Complementing assessment and reflection, project-based learning continues to be a vibrant and much-loved feature of classroom life. BSKL designs rich and engaging projects for Key Stage 3 students to explore during our drop-down days, which coincide with PTC events. Through collaboration, independent research, and creative problem-solving, students apply their learning in meaningful, real-world contexts. These experiences nurture curiosity, resilience, and critical thinking, while also providing valuable social opportunities. Working with peers from different pathways allows new friendships to form, many of which continue long after the day itself, reinforcing our culture of care, connection, and happiness.

Together, mock examinations, Parent–Teacher Conferences, and project-based learning reflect our balanced and holistic approach to education - one that values academic rigour, strong relationships, and learning experiences that prepare students for life beyond the classroom.
