Term 1 Academic Achievement in Secondary – A Recap

Term 1 in BSKL saw tremendous academic successes in the Secondary level, with students showcasing their capabilities by competing in various events.

Mathematics

In Mathematics, there is the UKMT Mathematical Olympiad (Girls Category). Linn achieved a merit in this competition, despite it being a challenging event focusing on mathematical communication and problem-solving.

Meanwhile, the UKMT Senior Maths Challenge, an annual event run by UKMT aimed at students in Years 11 to 13, the following students – Simon, Chen, Abeer, Scott, Chuhan, HanCheng and Pradhyum - achieved a Gold certificate, putting them in the top 8% globally.

The first round of the UKMT British Mathematical Olympiad, held in November 2025, saw the largest cohort from BSKL participating in the competition. Despite its challenges, as it focuses on longer answers and mathematical communication, we saw several students achieve great results. A shoutout to Simon, Ranbir and Geonhoo for getting a Merit for their performance and qualifying for Round 2.

The KL Intermediate Maths Challenge, an inter-school competition held in Kuala Lumpur and open to students in Year 9 and 10, saw Jiajia, Aijaz and Denis achieving third place in the Gameshows round.

Not to forget that Simon also achieved Pearson Edexcel’s Highest Mark in the World Award for IGCSE Mathematics.

We congratulate these mathematical whizzes for their outstanding performances.

Science

Our students participated in the Biology Explorer Competition. It is an online competition with timed multiple-choice questions covering very challenging GCSE and A-level Biology content. We had several students who achieved an honourable mention for their high scores. They are – Simon, Yee Rui, Chloe, Polina, Emma, Jia Hong, Shreya, Jimin, and Taeyoung. Congratulations to all the students mentioned.

Model United Nations

Model United Nations, or MUN for short, is the stand-out opportunity for students to hone their analytical and presentational skills. Our Secondary budding diplomats prepared all term for their participation in this year’s conference, held at Alice Smith school.

Participating alongside several other international schools from the Kuala Lumpur area, our delegates shone, picking up more awards than other schools. A particular praise goes to Emma, who picked up a best delegate award, Wern Xin who garnered the best proposition paper award and Kiana who co-chaired a committee. The calibre of the work and participation was top class and the confidence, experience and skills with which participants leave such events, set them up so well for academic and industry challenges of the future. Well done to the BSKL MUN team.

Conclusion

We hope that our secondary students will keep on inspiring us as they keep competing and bringing back these wonderful academic achievements. We congratulate them, and we celebrate their success, as it is a proven record of achievement.
