The British School Kuala Lumpur (BSKL) continues to reinforce its commitment to nurturing future leaders, as its Year 6 students successfully completed the internationally recognised UK PlayMakers Award, a programme designed to develop leadership, communication and teamwork skills among young learners.

Delivered by Mrs Charlene Sackley in collaboration with the Leadership Skills Foundation, the PlayMakersprogramme equips students with practical tools to lead with confidence, empathy and integrity—qualities the school says are central to its educational ethos.

The initiative goes beyond the classroom, encouraging students to apply their skills in real-world settings. This term, BSKL’s Year 6 Sports Leaders demonstrated the impact of their training by organising and leading Sports Festivals for Early Years, Year 1 and Year 2 pupils.

During these events, the student leaders took on responsibilities ranging from guiding activities to supporting younger children, showcasing strong organisationalabilities and a clear sense of accountability. Teachers noted that the leaders displayed enthusiasm and maturity, while fostering a positive and inclusive environment for participants.

“It was inspiring to see our students step into leadership roles with such confidence and care,” said Mrs Sackley. “Their ability to encourage and support younger peers reflects not only their skills, but also their character.”

The UK PlayMakers Award formally recognises the competencies the students have developed throughout the programme. For many of the participants, the certification marks both a personal milestone and a stepping stone for future leadership opportunities.

BSKL emphasises that initiatives like the PlayMakers Award are integral to its broader mission of developing well-rounded individuals—students who are not only academically capable but also socially responsible and community-minded.

The school extended congratulations to all Year 6 Sports Leaders for their accomplishment, describing it as a “fantastic achievement” that highlights the growing confidence and leadership potential within its student community.

As BSKL continues to invest in student development programmes, the success of the PlayMakers cohort underscores the importance of experiential learning in shaping tomorrow’s leaders.
